Static components

Engines are high-tech products the manufacture of which involves innovative techniques. With their aid, just about any product can be manufactured today, except that to be saleable, it also needs to be affordable. Apart from making the necessary technical preparations for a new component or material MTU's manufacturing shops have to organize the entire process chain in a manner that secures the Munich site's international competitiveness.

MTU develops and manufactures various static components for use in compressors and turbines.

Vanes

Vanes are fixed in ring formation inside the case of a compressor or turbine. Their purpose is to guide the inflowing air at an optimal angle on to the blades, which are fitted to rotating shafts.

MTU Aero Solutions offers you:

  • Integrally manufactured blade rings for low-pressure compressors and turbines
  • Blade segments for compressors
  • Nozzle segments for high- and low-pressure turbines

Structural components

for hot gas flows (turbine shrouds/turbine shroud hangers)

Turbine shrouds and turbine shroud hangers are fitted in the case of the turbine, where they seal off the flow of hot gas between the rotating blade tips and the case.

MTU Aero Solutions offers you:

  • Segmented structural components for turbines with high loads
  • Cooled and un-cooled versions
  • With honeycomb abradable lining if required

Cases

Cases

Engine components such as fans, compressors and turbines are each surrounded by a strong case designed to prevent blades spinning out of the engine and damaging the aircraft’s wings or fuselage should they break off.

MTU Aero Solutions offers you the following casing types:

  • Split compressor cases
  • Diffuser cases
  • Turbine center frames
  • Cases for low- and high-pressure turbines
  • TECs with mixers
  • Low-pressure turbine exhaust cases
